Architecture-Built Environment-Interiors (MSc)

Mission and goals:

The educational path of the Programme “Architecture – Built Environment – Interiors” provides advanced training in the field of Architectural Design with the aim to graduate practitioners able to change and to transform the built environment in its physical, architectural and landscape elements, empowering architectural resilience and affordance. The focus is on the modification and the regeneration of urban fabric, as well as of fragile territories, on interventions of building extensions and transformation, restoration and enhancement. The programme offers the possibility to characterize the study plan according to personal interests by choosing, besides the compulsory courses, a large number of elective thematic Design Studios. The courses have been conceived to ensure a correct balance among theoretical, practical and applicative aspects, by integrating in the design process the necessary requirements of feasibility and environmental, economic and social sustainability. Furthermore, specific courses aimed at providing advanced knowledge on Computation Design are available during all the two year-programme.


Career Opportunities:

The Laurea Magistrale in Architecture produces highly qualified designers, recognised by the European Union, thereby opening extensive fields of professional opportunity in the industry. Graduates of our MSc programme are currently working as independent professionals, for Public Administration, research institutes, private firms both in Italy and abroad.

Bovisa Campus  Piacenza Campus  Two Years English Language

Mission and goals

The Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) programme in Energy Engineering has the objective of preparing technicians able to actively follow and influence technological developments, working effectively in a competitive and multi-disciplinary industrial context. Various application sectors can be identified within the programme, such as Production and conversion of different forms of energy, Civil and industrial thermotechnics and the hydrocarbon sector focussed on the oil and gas industry.

In Milano Bovisa Campus the programme foresees a track taught in English. In Piacenza Campus a particular programme delivered in English is available which offers an overall view of the various technical issues related to Renewables and Environmental Sustainability:


Milano Bovisa Campus Track

Energy Engineering is the branch of engineering concerned with the design and the management of energy plants and their components in order to ensure the best use of the available resources with the minimum environmental impact. Energy plants are systems in which energy forms are transformed and utilized. To name a few examples: large thermal power stations, air-conditioning and climate control equipment for residences and offices, vehicle engines, airplane propellers, solar panels etc. The Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) in Energy Engineering prepares professionals to design, select and use the main technologies in energy transformation, to actively follow scientific improvements and to operate effectively in a competitive and multi-disciplinary industrial context, characterized by significant environmental, regulatory and safety constraints. Students will analyze broad themes as well as specific subjects for which both a rigorous methodological approach to thermodynamics and an open attitude towards related interdisciplinary topics are required.

Professional opportunities

Graduates can find employment in several sectors: in the technical area of designing, testing, running and maintaining the energy systems, like heating and cooling systems, thermal power and hydro-electric power plants, engines, oil and gas fields; in the energy management area; and in utilities and public boards that supply energy as electricity and natural gas.


Piacenza Campus Track (Renewables and Environmental Sustainability)

The Master of Science programme in Renewables and Environmental Sustainability (RES) is taught in English and offers a broad overview of the various technical issues related to energy and the environment. This special programme aims to prepare technicians capable of following and actively directing technological advances, operating effectively in a competitive and multi-disciplinary industrial context.

Graduates find employment in numerous industrial sectors, including industries producing and distributing energy; companies designing and managing thermal, thermal-electric, air-conditioning and refrigeration plant; energy management in companies or institutions with production purposes very different from those of producing energy. The engineer with a Laurea Magistrale can access research and development activities as well as those related to the analysis and design phases of large plants, innovative processes and development of technologically advanced machinery and components.

Management of Built Environment (MSc)

 

Mission and goals

The operational areas addressed by this Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) programme may be summarised in two skill profiles, gravitating around the economic-financial management (asset and property management) and technical-operational support services for the built-up environment management (facility management) areas. The objective of the programme is to transmit to the student knowledge and skills in building technology and construction, in production and management engineering, in law, in economics, in information technology and in land planning; to provide methods and tools to be used for technical-economic evaluation on purchase or on designing the requalification of buildings.


Career opportunities

Potential employment contexts for graduates in Building Management are: property companies, banks, banking foundations, insurance companies and, in general, companies characterised by an extremely significant amount of property; companies and public bodies managing public and private property assets; facility management companies; property fund management companies; property consulting forms and engineering companies and professional studios.

Mission and goals:

The Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) trains professionals with solid engineering foundations, a good scientific approach and a broad range of technical and applied contents. The level of cultural education is raised during the first year by broadening the knowledge of advanced analysis methods, which in the second year are applied in specialisation subjects and a thesis. The first year is offered in the Milano Bovisa and Lecco campuses with the same study plan (the first year is not available in the Piacenza campus, which offers only the second year). The specialization tracks cover a wide range of traditional and innovative mechanical engineering subjects:

Milano Bovisa Campus: Production Systems, Mechatronics and robotics, Virtual prototyping, Internal Combustion Engines and Turbomachinery, Advanced Mechanical Design, Advanced Materials and Technology, Ground Vehicles

Lecco Campus: Mechanical Systems Design, Industrial Production

Career opportunities:

Graduates with a Laurea Magistrale in Mechanical Engineering are technicians who can independently develop the functional, construction and energy-related aspects of innovative products, processes and systems in industry and in the advanced tertiary sector. On passing the State Professional Examination, Mechanical Engineering Graduates with a Laurea Magistrale can ask to be included in the Register of Engineers (section A).

Mission and goals:

The objective of the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) in Space Engineering is to educate highly skilled professionals, qualified to develop and manage technical activities related to research and design in the space sector. Space Engineering graduates have all the competences to fully develop activities related to the design, technical analysis and verification of a space mission. Within these activities, in particular, graduates from Politecnico di Milano can develop specific skills in the areas of: mission analysis, thermal and structural design of space components, design of the space propulsion and power generation system, design of the orbit and attitude control systems, space systems integration and testing.

Career opportunities:

The knowledge gained through the degree in Space Engineering is suited to responsibility positions where working autonomy is required. As an example, positions offered by the space industry, research centres, private or public companies involved in the design, manufacturing and testing of space components. Furthermore, the skills and competences of the space engineer are well suited to companies involved in the design and manufacturing of products characterized by lightweight structures and autonomous operation capacity, and more in general where advanced design tools and technologies are adopted.
